Novel synopsis
(Edited from author’s synopsis on jjwxc)
Song Pu transmigrates into a melodramatic ancient-romance novel and ends up as a minor cannon-fodder character serving at the side of a villainous tyrant.
In the original story, this insignificant character is framed for molesting one of the imperial concubines and is sentenced by the tyrant to be torn apart by five horses, his corpse hung upon the city walls to dry.
Determined to stay alive, Song Pu spares no effort in flattering the tyrant, showering him with extravagant praise in the hopes of becoming the tyrant’s most trusted favourite.
“Your Majesty’s martial prowess is unmatched! From a hundred paces you strike the target every time. Your servant admires you from the depths of his heart!”
“Your Majesty is a dragon among men, heaven’s chosen son, peerless beneath the heavens! To serve Your Majesty is a blessing I must have cultivated over many lifetimes!”
“Your Majesty held this servant’s hand. This hand shall never be washed again!”
“The treasures bestowed upon me by Your Majesty. Are they ordinary treasures? Certainly not! They embody Your Majesty’s heartfelt favour. I shall cherish them as family heirlooms and pass them down for generations!”
…
“Your Majesty…” what the hell?
The tyrant drags him onto the imperial dragon bed and says with clear satisfaction, “I permit you to say a few more pleasant things for me to hear.”
Song Pu: “…mmp. F*** your mother, all right?”
Tyrant: “What does that mean?”
“Like the silkworm that spins its silk until death; like the candle that burns itself to ash before its tears run dry!”

Reading Guide:
- Shou-protagonist. A beautiful young man with an extremely sensitive pain threshold, who flatters shamelessly in public but curses inwardly in private x a domineering, childish, narcissistic tyrant with the temperament of a madman and the looks of a powerful beauty.
- A light, sweet romance. No angst. One dares to flatter, the other dares to believe it. Truly a match made in heaven!
- The couple only ever have eyes for each other. No past relationships. No children.
- The author claims no great literary skill. The setting is a completely fictional dynasty, so historical purists should proceed with caution.

One-sentence summary: Winning the Emperor’s Favour Through Flattery
Brief Review:
The protagonist, Song Pu, transmigrates into a dog-blood melodramatic court novel and becomes a cannon-fodder character destined for a grisly death. In order to survive, he flatters the tyrannical emperor Tantai Yi at every opportunity, eventually earning the emperor’s overwhelming favour.
Although Tantai Yi is a brutal ruler, he possesses the mindset of an overgrown rebellious schoolboy. As Song Pu constantly spars with him, the two gradually develop genuine feelings. Song Pu ultimately resolves to temper Tantai Yi’s volatile nature and help guide him into becoming a ruler admired by all.
Though set in an ancient world, the novel’s tone is light and humorous. Both protagonists have vivid, distinctive personalities, and their interactions are full of amusing running jokes. It is silly yet sweet, playful yet heart-warming, and highly recommended.

This one absolutely hits my tastes in Danmei! I just love historical transmigrations (and xianxia but this doesn’t apply here). I tried the other two novels you’re translating atm but ‘The Cannon Fodder Male Wife’ one I sadly didn’t like the MC (most important part of a novel for me), and ‘The Eldest Shixiong’ one I didn’t get warm with. But I love a cowardly flatterer who is cursing inside, one of the reasons I loved SVSSS. Thanks for translating this 🙂
