Hearing his name, Qin Jianyue opened his eyes and turned to look at Luo Yu.
There was no anger in his eyes, but Luo Yu sensed some distress and weariness. He swallowed and looked away.
“I’m sorry again. I……I don’t know what else to say,” Luo Yu muttered.
Qin Jianyue didn’t respond and continued to stare at Luo Yu. LuoYu could feel his gaze on him and his heart instantly sped up.
“Can you please say something?” He asked nervously. But Qin Jianyue remained silent.
Luo Yu was getting agitated being the only one speaking, “Just yell at me. Or—or hit me. Anything! Just don’t keep staring at me.”
At last, Qin Jianyue replied, “Why?”
Luo Yu was confused, “Why what?”
Qin Jianyue: “Why can’t I stare at you?”
Luo Yu felt his throat tighten. He cast his gaze downward, “You—you make me anxious.”
“Why do I make you anxious?”
“I-I-I don’t know……”
Qin Jianyue moved closer to face him. “I do.”
Luo Yu did his best to restrain his expression. He fumbled with his hands beneath the water. Then he asked, “Why did you follow me?”
Qin Jianyue said, “You seemed so upset back then. When I came out of the room, I saw you hurrying out the courtyard door and wanted to make sure you were alright. Turns out I did the right thing.”
Then he asked gently, “Why did you risk your life to get that flower?”
Luo Yu paused for a while then said, “I…I didn’t think. All I knew was that I’d injured you, so I got it to help you heal faster.”
Qin Jianyue reached out and touched Luo Yu’s chin, tilting it up so that he could look into his eyes.
“Did you know how scared I was when I saw you there?” Qin Jianyue whispered. “What if I hadn’t followed you? I was so frightened that you’d get hurt or worse……and that I’d never get to tell you everything I’ve been wanting to say to you.”
Luo Yu began to tremble. He could feel tears welling up in his eyes.
Qin Jianyue took a deep breath and cupped Luo Yu’s cheek, “Ah Yu… I love you. I think you know, I’ve had feelings for you for a long time now.”
A teardrop rolled down Luo Yu’s cheek and plopped into the water. He felt a rush of warmth permeate through his entire body. If it was possible, his heart began pounding even faster and his hands started to shake a little. Qin Jianyue reached over and wiped the corner of Luo Yu’s eye.
Then he took Luo Yu’s hands and held them together. “Ah Yu……from the first moment I saw you, I felt something inside I didn’t understand. But the more I got to know you, the clearer it became.”
Luo Yu stared into Qin Jianyue’s affectionate eyes and then looked down again. “Q-Qin Jianyue……” he managed to mumble out, “We’re both men.”
Qin Jianyue’s gaze softened and he replied, “Does it matter?”
Luo Yu turned away, “This world won’t accept two men together.”
Qin Jianyue: “I don’t care what the world thinks. I only care about you.”
A thousand thoughts streamed through Luo Yu’s mind in an instant causing him to feel exceedingly bewildered. He didn’t want to think anymore. Every instinct he had told him to flee, but his body was incapable of moving.
Just then Qin Jianyue leaned in, his other hand went to hold the back of Luo Yu’s neck and pulled him closer. Before Luo Yu could react, Qin Jianyue’s warm lips were on his.
Qin Jianyue held Luo Yu close. Their bodies were warm and wet from the spring water. Now, they were firmly clinging to each other. Their breaths mingled and emotions were heightened. It felt like a spark had instantly ignited a most formidable and majestic blaze that threatened to engulf both of them.
Luo Yu felt a sudden rush in his limbs. He was at a loss for words. His mind only had a single thought.
Qin Jianyue was kissing him!
In fact Qin Jianyue was struggling to control himself for fear of unnerving Luo Yu, so he didn’t do anything else. He reluctantly pulled away and looked at Luo Yu who was staring at him with a wide-eyed expression.
Luo Yu saw his gaze drop a little to his lips and back up to his eyes. He knew from the hunger in them that Qin Jianyue wanted to kiss him again. Somehow, Luo Yu’s mind had cleared a bit and he turned his head away much to Qin Jianyue’s dismay.
“Ah Yu…” he said in a low voice.
Luo Yu closed his eyes, his lips still tingled from their earlier kiss. He whispered, “Qin Jianyue, you don’t know me. How can you say that you love me?”
Qin Jianyue gave a resolute reply, “I know how I feel about you.”
Luo Yu shook his head, “Your family’s in the imperial army. If you knew who I really am, you wouldn’t love me.”
Qin Jianyue sighed, “Ah Yu……I’m actually a commanding general in the imperial army and an imperial prince. The emperor is my elder brother.”
Luo Yu glanced up at him in astonishment, then immediately felt all the blood drain from his face and he pushed Qin Jianyue away. He moved a few feet towards the shore. Qin Jianyue saw his reaction and shifted to stop him.
“Ah Yu……you mind who I am?” He asked, then reached out to caress Luo Yu’s cheek.
Luo Yu turned to face him, “Jianyue, this doesn’t make anything easier. I don’t want to lie to you.” He took a deep breath and then said, “My real name is Eluoyu. I’m a prince from Eluo Ghost Tent.”
Luo Yu saw that Qin Jianyue was taken aback. He had fully prepared for this. Who wouldn’t be shocked to hear that? Now the truth was out in the open. There was a long silence.
Then to Luo Yu’s surprise, Qin Jianyue smiled. He pulled Luo Yu into his arms and embraced him.
“I said that I love you,” he whispered into Luo Yu’s ear. “I’ve already decided. Whatever comes, I’ll figure it out.”
Luo Yu felt something blossoming deep within his heart. He’d made no promises to this person but Qin Jianyue was steadfast and unfaltering. He didn’t mind that the was an Eluo prince, but what kind of future would they have?
“Jianyue……I don’t know. This is far too complicated.” Luo Yu bit his lip.
He tried to move a little away to clear his head but Qin Jianyue wouldn’t let him go.
“Please Jianyue, I need to think. I’m so confused right now.”
Qin Jianyue hugged him tightly and said, “Ah Yu, don’t think that I’m forcing you. I wasn’t going to say anything yet, but after everything that’s happened today, I didn’t think I should wait anymore.”
He continued, “It’s been so difficult maintaining a respectful distance from you. I can’t help but want to be close to you, to touch you. And I know I affect you too. I see your ears getting red and I can hear your breathing speed up.”
Luo Yu swallowed. So Qin Jianyue had picked up on all his subconscious behaviours…
Qin Jianyue drew him near and kissed his cheek, “Ah Yu……You and me……it feels right. This feels right.”
Then he moved to capture Luo Yu’s lips again.
Luo Yu didn’t stop him. He didn’t want to. He realised then that he had similar feelings for Qin Jianyue too. That’s why he was so flustered in his presence. That’s why he reacted the way he did when he saw him hurt. That’s why he cared so much. And obviously Qin Jianyue had recognised all this much earlier than him.
“Ah Yu, you responded to me.” Qin Jianyue pulled away a little and smiled. Luo Yu looked into Qin Jianyue’s beautiful eyes, understanding at last.
“Ah……Ah Yue,” he began. “I—”
Qin Jianyue kissed him again before he could finish. He was elated and couldn’t stop himself. He wanted more. So he tilted his head and licked Luo Yu’s lips, seeking entrance.
Prior to this, Luo Yu hadn’t any experience in kissing and he wasn’t very sure what he was doing. Being licked made his lips ticklish and when he opened his mouth a little, Qin Jianyue shocked him by sticking his tongue inside to tangle with his!
Luo Yu’s eyes flew open but Qin Jianyue wouldn’t allow him to back away. He encircled Luo Yu in his arms and continually ravaged his mouth with kisses until Luo Yu began to feel lightheaded. Luo Yu wound his arms around Qin Jianyue for support as they heaved and sloshed about passionately in the pool.
The sensation was so new and thrilling. Luo Yu felt that he was drunk on Qin Jianyue’s kisses and touches. Qin Jianyue tasted wonderful and his scent was like a drug filling Luo Yu’s nostrils.
After kissing for a while, Qin Jianyue finally slowed down. He pecked at Luo Yu’s lips a little before withdrawing and moving Luo Yu’s head to rest on his chest. Both of them were gasping and panting for breath.
Luo Yu heard the fervent heartbeats of the man holding him. He felt very safe and happy. He’d be lying if he said he hadn’t enjoyed it very much. It was as if they were the only two people in the world right now. He didn’t have all the answers at the moment, but he didn’t want to care.
Somehow, he became very aware that he was sitting atop Qin Jianyue’s lap. He sensed a hot, rigid response from the man beneath him as well as his own body’s reaction.
Realising what that meant, Luo Yu instantly blushed. He wasn’t knowledgeable in intimate relations but he knew that Qin Jianyue was definitely aroused right now.
Qin Jianyue felt the man tense in his arms and tilted to look at him.
Luo Yu hesitated and said softly, “Ah Yue……I’m quite tired now……I want to rest.”
Qin Jianyue kissed his eyelids, “Alright. Let’s get out of the pool and dry off first.”
They carefully climbed out of the hot spring. Luo Yu couldn’t help blushing all the way since the both of them didn’t have a stitch on. Qin Jianyue covered him with his robe before putting on his own, then he accompanied Luo Yu back to his room.
When Luo Yu entered, he turned and noticed Qin Jianyue was standing outside the door. Qin Jianyue cleared his throat and gave a small smile, “You should rest. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
As he was about to close the door, Luo Yu leaned up and kissed him on the lips. Immediately, Qin Jianyue wrapped his arms around Luo Yu to deepen the kiss.
After a short while, they gradually withdrew and smiled at each other. Qin Jianyue looked at him and said in a low voice that sounded like he was in agony, “I should go now. If not, I won’t be able to control myself.”
Luo Yu’s eyes went wide. He wasn’t totally sure what Qin Jianyue had meant by that but he had some idea. He’d felt the seething passion and intensity from the man earlier and wasn’t sure if he was ready for the consequences if he continued stoking the flames of desire.
So he bade him good night and closed the door. Then he sat down at the table to dry himself and change into his inner clothes before extinguishing the candles and going to bed.
As Luo Yu lay looking at the ceiling boards, his thoughts replayed their eager sessions in the hot spring pool just now. He blushed thinking about them, but in his heart, he was exhilarated. He was overjoyed.
Then he remembered what Qin Jianyue had said to him before: he was an imperial prince!
In an instant, his anxieties came flooding back. How was this going to work? He couldn’t even bear to consider the consequences if either of their royal households found out about them. They were safe here for now, but were they going to stay in Lesser Jade House forever?
There was no way he would bring Qin Jianyue to Eluo. It was too dangerous. He’d be cursed and infected with Gu poison even before he’d set foot inside the palace grounds. Was he willing to forsake Eluo’s royal court, his family, his home……everything for a life with Qin Jianyue?
And what about Qin Jianyue? Even if Luo Yu was willing to follow him into the imperial palace, no royal household would tolerate a male consort for their prince! Was Qin Jianyue truly going to give up his royal title and life to be with someone like Luo Yu?
These questions revolved relentlessly in his mind for the most of the night making him unable to fall asleep for several hours. Ultimately, he was still unable to assuage his worries and he could only conclude that a long-term relationship with Qin Jianyue wasn’t possible. As such, it would be best to break it off as soon as possible. They would be hurt, but he didn’t see a point in prolonging the inevitable.
So before he was able to fall asleep, he decided he’d have to end his involvement with Qin Jianyue the next day.
